Basset Farmhouse Cottage
We live in an old farmhouse between Treleigh and North Country, just north of Redruth (map ref SW697437). The road was originally a drive belonging to Tehidy House, the manor house of the Basset Family, who owned most of the land for miles around (particularly the mines, which gave them their great wealth). Most of the land of Basset Farmhouse was sold off many years ago, alas. There is a two bed-roomed 'granny annex' attached to the farmhouse which we rent out to short stay visitors. We have spent the last four years undertaking a major renovation of the farmhouse, and having just completed the Cottage, this is now available once again.  (Details, and prices with availability)
The Cottage consists of two double bedrooms, a fully fitted kitchen, a dining area, lounge, bathroom and separate toilet. One bedroom is furnished with a double bed and the other with two singles. The kitchen contains a breakfast bar but the main eating area is in a large porch. The lounge has two sofas - one is convertible to a double bed, but the cottage is a little crowded with six people, so we suggest four people as the normal capacity.

The gardens have been well-stocked in the past, but needs considerable clearing and sorting to show off the planting. We find new items appearing every year! Please feel free to use these facilities. If any expert gardeners can help us with identification of the species, we would be most grateful for your help.

The area is steeped in mining history, and it would take several books to do it justice. The A30 is about half a mile away, giving fast access up and down the County (except on Friday nights and Saturday mornings in the tourist season!) Almost the whole of Cornwall can be reached in less than an hour (but possibly not at holiday driving speeds), from Lands End to the west, the Lizard to the south, and Launceston (gateway to Cornwall) in the east. Only the north east, from Padstow to Bude, takes much more than an hour to reach.

The County City of Truro is about ten miles away, with its famous cathedral and variety of shops - some modern, some retaining the 'old worldliness' of bygone days.
